My Twitter App: First Details (sorta)

So I’ve been planning for a while to make my own Twitter app. This is mostly because I’m not 100% satisfied with anything that currently exists AND it’ll be my first app. I plan to put it out for free and maybe take up collection via Kickstarter to raise cash for upgrades and the like. So it’ll stay free and be funded via good ol’ American* socialism.

(*calm down, it’s a joke)

So what do I plan to do with this crazy Twitter app o’ mine?

I’m gonna leave out all of the spectacular stuff that I think is gonna be really cool. I’ll just say, I plan on doing some really cool things with everyone’s location data.

Here’s what I will say I’ll be doing…

Standard Twitter Features
Post, upload pics, update location, etc. etc. blah blah. You know how this works.
Landscape Mode!
Seriously… every app on the planet should have a landscape mode. Every. Single. One.
Better Handling of Media
So people have 3GSs and are starting to use TweetMic and Audioboo. There’s no reason I can’t see that stuff right in the app. No more of this switching to Safari/Webview and then popping open another player. Seriously, guys. 3.0, FTW.
Quick SMS Notification Toggling
Go to a user’s profile and toggle whether or not you want the SMS notifications for that user.
Stealing From the Best!
I’m stealing Twittelator’s in-tweet media thumbnail/previewing, TweetDeck’s columns (although a tad differently), and Tweetie & Twitteriffic’s… uhhh… ease of use?
and more!!
There’s more, but I want to save some of the feature list for later.

I know I said I was done planning, but I’m shooting to add my own backend service to the app that will go along with some of the location-based features that I wasn’t talking about earlier.

In conclusion, while I understand that App Store is flooded with Twitter apps, I need to start somewhere, and this seems like a good place. It’s simple enough to not screw up, and should turn out slick/cool enough to be worth the time I’ll put in to it (in between working on Ossia, other websites, some videos here and there, and a whole bunch of other stuff I have on my plate).

Stay tuned!
