Cognitive Dissonance: Christianity + Healthcare Reform
Let me get this out of the way. I’m not trying to be controversial or raise any eyebrows or even “make you think”. This is my Tumblog and I use it, literally, as a dumping ground for what’s on mah’ mindgrapes. That being said…
I’m confused and would like to know what the christian/Bible-based stance on healthcare reform actually is.
“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed”
- Proverbs 19:17
You’re telling me, the Christian-Conservative American citizen has a problem with health care reform?
To me, it seems that there’s a disconnect between the actual words from the Bible and our actual actions, here.
Christian-conservatives are hailing the Massachusetts election as some kind of victory because we don’t want to pay (possible, yet promised to be unlikely) higher taxes so we can have an affordable health care option? To do away with limitations due to pre-existing conditions?
We tithe and give throughout the year to help homeless shelters, neighboring churches, mission groups, and other heavily-giving organizations, but when it comes to helping the very people we worship with, eat with, shop with, laugh with, and love with, it becomes some sort of problem and we cry “socialism”.
A quote I heard:
“I don’t want to pay higher taxes so lazy Joe Sixpack can get free healthcare.”
My retort:
Clearly, you haven’t kept up with the health care bill. It’s not free socialized health care. It’s a cheaper, lower-quality, basics-covering alternative so people that can’t afford the “good stuff” won’t go broke trying to get a broken bone or swollen-shut throat checked out. Not only that, but the current version of the health care bill(s) has been compromised/watered-down so much that it won’t really change much.
UPDATE: About the title… look it up.
In conclusion… kitten!
