Fast Five
Look, I enjoy the Fast & Furious franchise. What started as Point-Break-with-cars has done a decent job, thanks to Justin Lin (director of Better Luck Tomorrow and the Paintball episode of Community), of growing and expanding the plot and characters somewhat intelligently.
Surprising, I know.
Without getting in to a level of detail about the series that I don’t care to admit I know, F&tF is all about a band of criminals trying to gain freedom, as their lives have become worth living due to love, friendship, and family.
It’s all set to the backdrop of a great action flick. Cars, explosions, stunts, exotic women, race scenes, rappers-turned-actors, etc. It’s all in there.
So what’s Fast Five all about? Crime, cars, exotic women, a few races (but not a lot), the Rock delivering cheesy one-liners, a rapper-turned actor, and a bank heist that starts sneaky and then ends up with millions in property damage.
Don’t over think it.
Not the strongest of the series (which, in my opinion, is Fast & Furious [the 4th one] and Tokyo Drift [the end of Han’s story]), and lacking a lot of racing, but still enjoyable.
They need to make it a TV series, already, but these medium budget action flicks are fine with me.
If you’re a fan of the series and you know what’s going on with the narrative, stay after the credits for a great set up for a Fast Six, or whatever they call it.
