Concert Challenge?
1) The first concert you ever went to.
No shame here: Kris Kross’s Totally Krossed Out tour in Atlanta. My mom got tickets for the whole family for my birthday and we went. Heavy D and MC Lyte were the openers and it was awesome. Thanks, mom!!
2) Favourite concert you’ve been to.
This is tough. It’s a tie between Metric (after Live It Out came out) and when Stars opened for Death Cab. Metric and Stars are great live. More on this, later. Actually, my friend’s bands have always put on great shows. Plus, it’s always cool to be able to have a beer with the band afterwards.
3) Least favourite concert you’ve been to.
Sadly, the Death Cab portion of the Stars/Death Cab show was not very fun. They are so professional that they sound exactly like they do on the CD. Plus, they followed Stars, who put on an amazing set.
4) Best live band.
My friend’s band Drawn a Blank is my favorite to see live. Lots of energy, lots of fun, and they always close with a cover of something everyone didn’t realize they knew the words to.
5) Worst live band.
How is this different from question 3? Maybe it’s more of a speculative question. I imagine Lady Gaga is not a very good live show. You’re miles from the stage and you can’t help but think you’re hearing more of a pre-recording than a live performance.
6) Band you’ve seen live the most.
Lenorable, Drawn a Blank, or Allison Weiss. Lenorable and DAB are my friend’s bands. THey’re both really good so I try to see them when I can. And Allison Weiss puts on a good show, so I try to see her when I can as well.
7) A person/band you’d love to see.
Mumford & Sons. Which I’m actually seeing in a few weeks. Tokyo Police Club, which I missed to help out at work. And, Anamanaguchi. Oh! And I hear a Odd Future show is a life-altering experience like being in a fight club.
8) Nicest band member you’ve met.
Allison Weiss and anyone from Age of Rockets (including Allison Weiss). Smaller bands (in overall fame, not in epic-ness) are great to see because they just hang out after the show and like talking to people. Most of these people are cool.
9) Rudest band member you’ve met.
It’s hard to find people that do what they love for a living that are also rude. Everyone’s been cool so far.
10) Favourite live venue.
I like 930, but I also enjoy smaller dive-y places where the band has to walk through the audience to get to the stage.
11) Best pre-show moment.
I saw Weezer in high school, right before the Green Album came out. Getting there, waiting in line, trying to scalp a ticket for a buddy that left his ticket on his dresser, running into other friends, etc. All of it was fun. Nowadays, it’s just fun to hang out with my friends before they get up to play some music.
12) Best post-show moment.
Chrissy has a tradition to go to Ben’s Chilli Bowl after a show. So… any show I saw with her was followed by delicious (and insanely high calorie) dinner.
13) Latest show you’ve been to.
Lenorable a few weeks ago.
14) The craziest mosh pit you’ve been in.
The first time I saw Weezer, Ozma opened and played the theme from Tetris. Nerds got excited and moshed hard.
15) Your next show.
Lenorable, Allison Weiss, or Mumford & Sons. I can’t remember the dates to any of these, but one of them is next.
16) The most expensive ticket you’ve ever bought.
Mumford & Sons was $44. I almost shelled out $85 to see [REDACTED] a few years back.
17) The least expensive ticket you’ve ever bought.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs was $12.
18) A song you’d love to hear live.
Your Ex-Lover Is Dead is still my favorite thing to hear anyone play. Covers are great and the Stars’ live version is also great. Also, when Metric extends ‘Dead Disco’, it’s always fun to see Haines try and make up lyrics on the fly.
19) Have you ever had to miss a concert you were planning on going to?
I missed Tokyo Police Club because I worked at Gamestop and Grand Theft Auto 4 just came out and the night guy called out and I wanted to be a team player to impress our DM and get my own store.
